AAU coach, James Rix, believes that there will be a resolution to the up-and-down summer recruitment of 6-foot-6 Texas forward Leonard Washington by the end of July.
“Leonard has had some issues academically,” Rix verified, “but he is working on them. We believe that we will know one way or another how those issues are resolved by the end of the Main Event Tournament in July (21-26).”
“Once those issues are resolved, Leonard will be able to make a decision about his future,” Rix added.
Scout.com’s Evan Daniels reported on July 2 that he 6-foot-6 forward would decide between Mississippi, LSU, Kentucky and Mississippi State. But academic questions forced the decision to be postponed and there have been a couple of developments since then.
“LSU is off the table,” Rix said, “they have decided to go a different direction. The other schools are still in it. It’s all subject to change, but if he gets his academics in order and makes a commitment, I would say that Kentucky and Mississippi would have to be considered the two leaders.”
Rix said that the academic issue is a touchy one but one that could be resolved. “In my estimation, I’d say that it is 60-40 that he will get those issues resolved,” Rix speculated, “If not, there is always prep school and he will be ready in a year.”
