Wall committed to get college degree

Once again John Wall has admitted what many didn't expect — he had more fun this year at Kentucky than he ever expected.

The Kentucky freshman told media members that in Indianapolis Thursday after he received the Rupp Award as the nation's top player.

He indicated he would make an official announcement about his plans in the next two weeks even though coach John Calipari once again made it clear he did not expect Wall back since he'll likely be the No. 1 pick in the draft.

"He wants to be the first player who stayed only one year to get his college degree," Calipari said during the awards ceremony. "He's a year-and-a-half into it right now."

Wall told me basically the same thing during UK's NCAA time in Syracuse when he emphasized that he had taken his academics seriously even when many thought he wouldn't.

"I'm finishing out the semester," Wall said Thursday. "No matter if I leave or stay, I'm going to finish it out. I don't want to make it harder for me to come back and get my degree. I promised my dad before he died that I was going to go to college and get a degree. So if I leave I'm going to make sure to come back and get it."
