Douglas Talks Kentucky Pledge

Kentucky has brought in several defensive line prospects, but one of the best of the group is Mike Douglas. Douglas talks about the Wildcats and his commitment.

Michael Douglas committed to Kentucky earlier in the month over offers and interest from several schools. "I was considering Indiana, Central Florida, Iowa and Missouri," he said. Douglas also had offers from Purdue, Cincinnati, Florida State and Mississippi.

So why did Douglas pick the Wildcats? "I took an unofficial to UCF. I went to Indiana. Both of them had the educational value I wanted. But they didn't have the competition I wanted," said Douglas. "Kentucky had a good mixture of both. And I'd be going against great competition every Saturday. And also in practice every day," said Douglas.

Douglas made his trek to Kentucky on September 19th and enjoyed his visit. "I just felt at home. I lived in North Carolina for a while. I like the southern hospitality. I blended in with the team really good," said Douglas.

Now with the possibility of changes in the Wildcat coaching staff, does that change anything for Douglas? "I didn't hear about him retiring. It doesn't matter," said Douglas. "I like coach Phillips just as much. He came to my house and said that coach Brooks would probably coach me for a while, but probablynot my whole four years of college," he said. "I knew it was going to happen, I just didn't know when," Douglas said.

When Mike gets to campus, the coaches will have options on how to use his skills. "They like me more as a defensive player," said Douglas. "I've got good speed and I'm a hard worker," he said. "I want to work on my technique for the college game. I want to be more of a student of the game," he finished.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound (4.6 forty) athlete could also contribute at tight end as well. But his speed will be an asset for the Wildcats on the edge.
