After leading Lassiter High (Ga.) to a 12-1 record and the third round of the playoffs, it's time for Hutson Mason to focus on recruiting. "This time last year I was just starting the recruiting process," said Mason. "I think my stats hurt me. People thought I was a system quarterback," he continued. "This year I began to pick up offers after they saw me in person," he finished.
It was an impressive senior season for Mason as he threw for over 4500 yards and 54 touchdowns. He also completed 73 percent of his passes. "I feel like one of my best strengths is my accuracy. I was very accurate this year. I think my pocket presence is my second best strength," he said. "I've been blessed with good awareness and knowing the offense and the protection."
"I want to get stronger and I think I can get that with a redshirt year and working in the weight program," said Mason. "Strength and speed are what I'll work on," he finished.
So what schools are most interested in the Georgia signal caller? "I got an offer from Virginia last week," said Mason. "Mississippi State is very interested in me. I think have a great shot at getting an offer from them soon. I have offers from Western Michigan, Miami, Central Michigan, Indiana, Florida Atlantic and Toledo," he finished.
But what about the Wildcats?
"Coach Phillips came down the same night as the Virginia coaches came down. That was the bes stats night I had. I had 550 yards and eight touchdowns," he said. "I haven't talked with coach Phillips personally. I don't think the interest is very strong. But they might come in and their level might come up because things might change," said Mason.
Mason hasn't scheduled any visits at this point, but they will likely be hashed out in the coming weeks. "I've got five (officials) to take. I think I'll have to take a lot of unofficials too. It's going to be a busy December and January."
