John Wall provided plenty of excitement in his first official collegiate game. The freshman pre-season All American led the Wildcats in scoring with nineteen points, and hit the game winning shots to propel the Wildcats to a 2-0 start on the season.
Miami
's Keny Hayes hit a three to tie the game at 70 with just over six seconds remaining.
John Wall
then took the ball up the floor with a full head of steam and delivered victory to the Wildcats in his first official game as a Wildcat when he nailed a pull up midrange jumper with 0.05 seconds remaining in the game.
Kentucky
fell behind 36-18 in the first half, then fought back to get within a basket by the end of the first half, 39-36.
The Wildcats finally pulled even at 57-52, but the Redhawks came charging back and the game was a back and forth affair until the final horn sounded.
Miami was led by
Nick Winbush
, who was unconscious from long range, nailing eight of ten threes and finishing with 26 points. Hayes added sixteen for the Redhawks.
Wall led the way with 19 points,
Patrick Patterson
scored 17, and
DeMarcus Cousins
added ten for the Wildcats. Cousins did all of his damage in the second stanza. Wings
Darius Miller
and
Darnell Dodson
added nine points each for the Wildcats, with Dodson doing most of his damage in the first half, and Miller thriving in the second.
