Keenan Burton spent an uneventful summer getting ready for his second season with the St. Louis Rams.

“I lifted, worked out, did camps and enjoyed myself a little bit while trying to stay off my feet as much as I could,” said the former University of Kentucky receiver.

Burton caught 13 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown with St. Louis, but expects to be a much bigger contributor to the team this year much like he was at Kentucky. After playing in only eight games in 2004 and 2005 because of injuries, Burton blossomed into a star his final two years. He ranks fourth in school history in receptions (169), third in receiving yards (2,155), and second in touchdowns (23). Burton, who was also a prolific kick returner, amassed over 4,000 all-purpose yards at Kentucky. One of his more memorable plays was his kickoff return for a score against Louisville in 2006, the same season he had 77 catches for 1,036 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Burton shared his thoughts on life in the NFL and other things with KSR.

Question: What was your first year in the NFL like?

Burton: “It was okay. It was not quite what I expected. I did pretty good for a rookie, though. I got a lot of respect around the league and also from my teammates. Special teams-wise, blocking-wise and everything like that I think I gained respect. I do expect more from myself this year. I have to stay healthy. I just have to maintain things and do what I do.”

Question: Is the difference from college to the NFL far greater than the move from high school to the Southeastern Conference?
