Wildcats in the News

When Kentucky’s good, the perception of the league is good. When Kentucky’s down, the league is often perceived to be down.
Wildcats in the news:
TrackEMTigers
Under offensive head coach in waiting Joker Phillips, the Wildcats have made strides on offense. The last time
Kentucky
visited Auburn, their offense could not hold onto the ball, and early turnovers led to a 21-0 Tiger lead before the echoes of the National Anthem had even died out. These days, the Wildcat offense is a threat, with well-coached receivers and backs. Quarterback Mike Hartline struggled in many games, last fall. The junior quarterback is the incumbent, but Kentucky will keep its options open, and Hartline will have to win the starting job again, in fall camp. Kentucky averaged 22.6 points per game last season, but those numbers are deceptive. Against SEC opponents, Kentucky averaged only 17.8. This season, the Wildcats lose wide receiver Dicky Lyons and running back Tony Dixon to the NFL. However, there are plenty of options to replace those two. The move of sophomore quarterback
Randall Cobb
to wide receiver could pay huge dividends, if Cobb builds on his spring performance.
COURIER JOURNAL
The university has launched a "singing" billboard campaign that will allow passers by to hear the Wildcats ' fight song when they drive or walk near a billboard with a radio tuned to a specific station. A radio transmitter on the boards allows the song to be heard up to a mile away. COURIER PRESS
The University of Kentucky basketball coach may have even exceeded his calling plan minutes as he dialed and text messaged his way through a lengthy list of Wildcats' supporters who pack considerable political or financial clout in the Commonwealth. Heck, with Coach Cal's World-Wide Web audience through Twitter now numbering more than 360,000, he's even well on his way to becoming his own marketing empire.
THE NEWS STAR
Calipari’s first Kentucky class is ranked No. 1 in the nation by Rivals.com. The Wildcats’ class also includes the top-two rated players by Rivals — point guard
John Wall
(1) and power forward
DeMarcus Cousins
(2). Four of the Wildcats’ signees are ranked in Rivals’ top 25 recruits. “It’s very obvious already the impact he’s had,”
Mississippi State
coach
Rick Stansbury
said. “All through that state, that’s all everybody’s talking about.” While Calipari lost Meeks to the draft, he does return Patterson and the bulk of last year’s NIT team to go along with his highly touted freshman class. When Kentucky’s good, the perception of the league is good. When Kentucky’s down, the league is often perceived to be down.
