Wildcats Need To Come Strong
With five scholarship offers in hand and more sure to come the Greensboro (NC) Northern Guilford product has interest in the Wildcats but is waiting to see what happens when the contact period begins.
"Coach (Chris) Thurmond was in contact with me but I've not received much since the dead period started. I'll know more about how I feel about Kentucky once the coaches are able to contact me. They'll need to come on strong and contact me as much as possible so I know they really want me."
One reason for the interest in the Wildcats is from a recent visit to Lexington about a month ago.
"I went there about a month ago for a visit and was surprised by how big their stadium was in person. On TV it doesn't look that big. I know they've won a lot of bowl games as I got a chance to watch some of the highlights and also look at photos and bowl rings while I was there. They also have some great facilities for their athletes to work in."
But as with many prospects during the recruiting process other programs have also shown a lot of interest.
"Right now I'd place Kentucky second on my list behind Oregon who just offered me last week. I have no problem with leaving my home state and in my opinion the PAC-10 is playing some great football."
When asked if he'd place the PAC-10 ahead of the SEC the North Carolina native wasted little time to answer.
"The SEC has a lot of traditional schools, but I'd say having the chance to play against teams like USC and UCLA is just as exciting and I'd place that ahead of the SEC right now."
When asked about his game Scales fully understands what a team is looking for.
"I'm a great textbook tackler who can also cover guys."
With offers from Kentucky, Duke, Louisville, Ohio and Oregon and programs like Purdue, Wisconsin and Arizona State showing heavy interest don't look for a quick choice anytime soon.
"Right now I'm looking at South Carolina, Louisville, North Carolina and going to the West Coast for camps. I think my friends and I are looking to camp at California, Stanford and maybe UCLA this summer." Oregon will get a visit from Scales in May so he can compare what he's seen so far.
