Randall Cobb

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman quarterback/wide receiver Randall Cobb had successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Tuesday, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.

“This will take a little longer rehabilitation than some of the cartilage repairs we’ve had in the past,” Brooks said. “He won’t practice for two-to-three weeks. I wouldn’t rule him out, but he looks to be doubtful to play in the bowl game.”

Cobb, who sustained the injury during Saturday’s game at Tennessee, has started the last four games at quarterback. For the season, he has completed 52 of 99 passes (52.5 percent) for 542 yards and five touchdowns. He has rushed for 316 yards and seven touchdowns. At wide receiver, he has caught 21 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. He also is returning punts, averaging 8.4 yards per return.

Sophomore Mike Hartline is expected to return to the No. 1 quarterback position in Cobb’s absence. Hartline started the first eight games of the season. He has completed 54.6 percent of his passes for 1,462 yards and eight touchdowns this year.
