Senior catcher Luke Maile of Covington Catholic High School will sign his letter of intent for the University of Kentucky Wednesday. Maile is ranked number one in the state of Kentucky and 230 in the country, according to scouting bureau Perfect Game Cross Checker. He was sought after by a number of schools, including Vanderbilt, LSU, Louisville and Ohio University, among others.
Under head coach Bill Krumpelbeck, Maile was twice chosen as the Northern
Kentucky
Player of the Year, twice named to the Kentucky All State Team, and selected to the 2008 MLB Area Code Games by the
Chicago White Sox
. He holds numerous school records with one remaining season in his high school career.
"UK just felt like the right place,” says Maile. “I visited many schools throughout the South and Midwest, and UK remained my top choice. I connected with all the coaches, the campus and everything about UK. I look forward to playing for my home state as a Wildcat."
Maile was impressed with the quality of UK’s coaching staff, especially head coach Gary Henderson and assistant coach Brad Bohannon. The University of Kentucky’s success in the Southeastern Conference and major post-season potential made UK an attractive school.
In his search, Maile also placed importance on the caliber of academics in his intended field of study—broadcast journalism.
Maile will sign his letter of intent on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 2:45 p.m. in the Covington Catholic High School Library. The event is open to the public and media.
