Five-star quarterback Morgan Newton is obviously a very wanted young player, nationally. In recent days, a rumor has come about that he would be making a visit to Ohio State, despite his commitment to Kentucky. Morgan’s father, Dr. John Newton addressed that rumor.

When it was hinted that Newton may be visiting Columbus, Kentucky fans began to feel uneasy. However when asked about the possibility, Dr. Newton was surprised. “If the guy who’s predicting that has any power, I need some numbers from him in the lotto,” laughed Dr. Newton. “I just talked to Morgan and he didn’t know anything about it.”

The Newtons have kept in close contact with all the staff at Kentucky since his commitment. “We talked to Joker (Phillips) last night. And also in talking with Chuck Smith and Randy Sanders, I think they are on the verge of breaking out,” said Newton. “We’re excited about Kentucky football,” he finished.

Newton’s been in touch with some of the current Wildcats as well. “Morgan talked to Dicky Lyons and Derrick Locke. He just wanted to help keep their spirits up after their injuries,” said Newton.

If it appears that the Newtons are already a part of the Big Blue Nation, it’s because they are already part of the UK family. “We’re already at UK. We haven’t paid tuition yet,” laughed Newton. “Behind the scenes, we’ve already started working. We’re helping with support and we’re going to come in this summer ready to go,” said Newton.

Morgan has had an outstanding season thus far, leading the Carmel Greyhounds to an 8 and 1 record. Newton has thrown for 1258 yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s completed 63 percent of his throws. On the ground Newton has been just as deadly. Morgan has carried the ball 144 times for 932 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Newton and his Carmel team began their playoff run last night by defeating Noblesville 41-0. Netwon had a big game with 158 yards passing for 3 touchdowns, 76 yards rushing and 1 touchdown on the ground.
