Wildcats Still Interested in Smith
Defensive back, specifically corner, is the one of the biggest need areas for Rich Brooks' Wildcats. One of the top corners in the nation is still hearing from the Cats. The state of Georgia has been good to Kentucky. But the Wildcats will have to get really lucky to reel in Branden Smith. Smith has offers from every major college in the country, including the Wildcats. While most observers believe that Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Clemson and Florida are the teams to beat, Smith says otherwise. "I'm interested in everybody right now. I'm open to everybody," said Smith. The interest is mutual and for good reason. The 5-foot-11, 170 pound prospect runs the 40 in 4.28 seconds. "A weapon on offense, defense, and special teams, Smith is an electrifying athlete with the ball in his hands. He has the quickness and size to be a lockdown corner, but playing receiver is not out of the question. He's a dynamite punt returner that should see the ball even if he ends up on defense in college," said Scott Kennedy of Scout.com. Smith does still see room for improvement. "I want to get better at the basics. I like to work on the basics at all times," said Smith. "But my speed on offense and defense are my strengths," he continued. Branden visited Georgia this weekend and witnessed their defeat at the hands of another one of his suitors, Alabama. He hasn't planned his other visits yet. Smith already has in mind when he's going to make his decision. "Probably towards the middle o the season I'll do my top five. I want to make my decision at the Under Armor All American game," he said. While it seems that the Wildcats may be on the outside looking in, Smith does have respect for the Wildcats program. "It's a real good school and a good program. I'm still doing research, especially on Kentucky," he said. Branden Smith is a four-star prospect and the number seven corner in the nation according to Scout.com.
