The SEC is kicking off it's college football season this week in Birmingham, with Media Days on July 23rd through July 25th. Today, the conference released the coaches all conference selections. Five Kentucky Wildcats made the three teams.
For several years, the Wildcats have been known as more of an offensive team, however, four of the five pre-season selections were defenders. Cornerback Trevard Lindley and defensive end Jeremy Jarmon led the way as second team selections. Also making second team, offensively tackle Garry Williams. Linebackers Micah Johnson and Braxton Kelley were selected third team, rounding out the Wildcats selections.
Trevard Lindley is Kentucky's leading returning tackler with 66 stops from last season, including three tackles for a loss. Lindley also picked off three passes last season and broke up 11 more attempts.
Braxton Kelley made 63 tackles last season, five tackles for loss and one half sack. The three year starter at middle linebacker also picked off one pass last season. Kelley will be making the move to outside linebacker this fall.
Jeremy Jarmon made 62 tackles last season for the Wildcats. He was among the conference leaders in sacks, with nine. He also forced two fumbles and recovered another.
Micah Johnson made 58 tackles, including four tackles for a loss. He also made two interceptions for the Wildcats, while sharing time at middle linebacker with Braxton Kelley.
Offensive tackle Garry Williams is a two year full time starter, and he was a part-time starter as a freshman for Rich Brooks. He's expected to anchor the Wildcat offensive line this season.
Defending National Champion LSU had 14 selections to the preseason team.
