Halftime at the Music City Bowl: UK 14 FSU 14
After netting one first down, the UK offense stalled, but on 3rd down and 10, Andre Woodson hit Jacob Tamme in the end zone with a 14-yard scoring strike, and the successful extra point gave UK a 7-0 lead.
The Wildcats appeared ready to add to their lead when Rafael Little coughed up the ball at the FSU 13-yard line. Tony Carter gathered up the loose football for the Seminoles and scampered 51-yards to put the ball on UK's side of midfield. A 6-yard Drew Rutherford quarterback keeper tied the game at 7, which is how the first quarter ended.
Woodson hit Steve Johnson in the 2nd quarter with a 13-yard touchdown to put the Cats up temporarily 14-7. The touchdown pass would be Woodson's 38th of the season, breaking Tim Couch's all-time Kentucky record for most touchdown passes in a single season.
The lead would not hold up for long, however. After a missed FSU field goal attempt, the Wildcats would once again turn the ball over to the Seminoles in great field position. This time Little would run into the back of a UK blocker, and then have the ball stripped--his second fumble of the half--with the Seminoles recovering deep in Wildcat territory.
UK would temporarily dodge the bullet, however. On 3rd down and goal from the 1-yard line, a Weatherford keeper was stopped just inches short of the goal line. FSU was again thwarted on 4th down and UK took over on downs on their own 1-yard line.
On first down with the ball just outside the end zone, Woodson stepped back to pass, and floated a pass in the middle of the field. FSU's Carter snared the ball, and returned it 24 yards for the tying touchdown.
Two "celebration" penalties were called against Florida State on the touchdown, with both being assessed on the kickoff.
The Cats would move the ball to the FSU 11-yard line, but on 3rd down, Woodson would be sacked at the 20. Lones Seiber converted the 37-yard field goal, but Kentucky elected to take points off the board because of a FSU personal foul penalty giving them new life at the 10-yard line. FSU would stiffen, and force a 40-yard Sieber field goal, which missed just wide left to end the half with a 14-14 deadlock.
