Columbia, SC -- The # 11 South Carolina Gamecocks lead the # 8 Kentucky Wildcats at halftime, 17-10. The game has featured a fumble through the end zone for a touchback, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, and an interception in the end zone.
South Carolina
received the ball first, and on the opening drive they appeared to have caught
Kentucky
in blown coverage for a 50-yard touchdown. Fortunately for the Wildcats,
Trevard Lindley
punched the ball out of Wesleye Saunders' hands as he crossed the 2-yard stripe, and the ball bounced harmlessly through the end zone for a touchback.
Kentucky's luck would not hold out much longer, though, as on their second play from scrimmage,
Andre Woodson
was hit and fumbled on the 10-yard line, with South Carolina's Eric Norwood picking the ball up and running it in for a score and an early 7-0 lead.
Kentucky's next drive netted 31 yards, but on 4th down and the South Carolina 41-yard line, the Cats opted to punt, and Tim Masthay pinned South Carolina deep at its 6-yard line. The battle of field position was won, as the Cats held the Gamecocks, and UK received the ball back after a South Carolina punt gave the Cats the ball at the USC 44 yard line.
The Cats moved to the South Carolina 8-yard line, with 1st down and goal to go, but could not get 7. A 27-yard Lones Seiber field goal cut the lead to 7-3.
After a Gamecock field goal moved the score to 10-3, the Wildcats tied the score, courtesy of an 18-yard strike from Woodson to Tamme. The touchdown moved Tamme into a select club of only 18 Wildcats with 1,000 yard receiving in their career.
With the score tied at 10-10, the Wildcats appeared to have momentum as they marched downfield for the go-ahead score, and Tamme's apparent second touchdown of the game. Woodson's pass was underthrown to Tamme, though, and South Carolina picked it off in the end zone.
After trading possessions with negative yards gained, USC then scored the go-ahead touchdown on an 89-yard drive, capped by a 3-yard Mike Davis rushing touchdown. The score put the Gamecocks up 17-10 at the half.
