Rain suspends play in sixth inning

UK vs. Vandy Baseball Suspended in Sixth Inning. Play will resume on Sunday.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - No. 19 Kentucky's baseball game with No. 1 Vanderbilt, played Saturday evening at Cliff Hagan Stadium, has been suspended in the top of the sixth inning and will played until its completion on Sunday. The regularly scheduled Sunday contest will begin at 1 p.m. EDT and will be televised live on the Big Blue Sports Network (Lexington Insight Channel 5). That contest will be a seven-inning game. Following the conclusion of the opening game, the Saturday game will resume from the point of interruption and will be a nine-inning contest. Both games will be carried live on WLAP 630-AM with Neil Price. Vanderbilt held a 2-1 advantage with two runners on and no outs in the top of the sixth inning when the game, which began 1 hour and 44 minutes after its originally scheduled start time due to inclement weather, was suspended. The Wildcats jumped on the board with a run in the first inning. First baseman Mike Brown opened the frame with a single to second base and advanced to second on a fielding error by the Vandy second baseman. Designated hitter Sean Coughlin then singled to right field, and VU right fielder Dominic de la Osa attempted to throw to first base, but there was no one covering the bag and the ball caromed into foul territory. Brown scored on the error to give the Wildcats an early 1-0 advantage. The Commodores responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Matt Meingasner singled through the right side with two outs and Alex Feinberg walked on the next at-bat. First baseman Brad French doubled to shallow center field to drive in the duo and put Vanderbilt ahead 2-1. Both starting pitchers - Kentucky's Andrew Albers and Vanderbilt's Mike Minor - were still on the hill at the point the game was suspended.
