TAYLOR: The UK family Christmas List

Posted Dec 22, 2006

Santa is making his list and checking it twice. Wearing a Big Blue hat, Mr. Claus is making his rounds in Big Blue Nation. With just a few days remaining before Christmas, the following is a proverbial list submitted by various individuals around campus.

Football coach Rich Brooks would like nothing more than a win when the Wildcats play in the Music City Bowl, not to mention a contract extension.

Defensive coordinator Mike Archer has asked for a duplicate of his team’s performance in a season-ending loss at Tennessee in Nashville. The same feat would be sweet for Archer and Co.

Andre Woodson and Keenan Burton seek an impressive performance in the team’s first bowl appearance in seven years. For Woodson, an impressive outing on national television could give the UK quarterback an early jump in next year’s Heisman Trophy race.

Woodson wants to be part of the Heisman watch.

Tubby Smith wants to end the season with no double-figure losses.

Women’s basketball coach Mickie DeMoss has asked for a second consecutive win over Tennessee at Rupp Arena, not to mention a better showing in the Southeastern Conference Tournament and the Big Dance.

Kentucky’s baseball team wants a second SEC title and a solid performance in the postseason.

Larry Vaught has asked for a new Dell laptop and a new company car to drive. He deserves both, plus a raise.

For Bill Keightley, more good times with the basketball team.

For Jared Carter, a speedy recovery from a shoulder injury.

A sweep over Florida and Tennessee on the hardwood wouldn’t be too much to ask, would it Santa?

Tubby is asking for a successful signing class next spring. He has also asked for a first trip to the Final Four since his first season.

Kentucky fans have already begun asking for Santa to convince Randolph Morris to stay one more year. The football frenzies have requested the same from Burton.

This writer has one request. Santa, can you ask Tubby if you’ll let the freshmen speak to the media? I think Ramel, Joe and Randolph are running out of words to say. I will leave some cookies and milk for you, coach.

Finally, Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year!
