Despite Report, NC RB Not Committed

A report published in the Shelby Star today that stated Greensboro (NC) Page HS star Remene Alston had committed to Kentucky was deemed inaccurate according to the father of the star running back, Remene Alston, Sr.

The report, which was released this morning, quoted Crest High School coach Roy Kirby as stating Alston as a Kentucky commitment.

"They run a lot out of the I-formation," Kirby told The Shelby Star. "They've got a tailback (Remene Alston) that was ranked as the preseason No. 10 back in the country. He's got over 1,800 yards and 22 touchdowns in 10 games and he's committed to Kentucky."

According to the father of Remene Alston, that report was inaccurate and premature. "He likes Kentucky and they are firmly number one on his list, but he has not formerly committed to them, yet" Remene Alston, Sr. responded to the report.

The Wildcats are one of just three offers that Alston currently holds, the others being NC State and East Carolina.

"Kentucky has been very persistant in their pursuit of Remene and they have made it very clear that they would like for him to attend their institution," Alston, Sr. continued, "but Remene is firmly concentrated on the playoffs right now and has decided he'll wait until afterwards to sit down and address this issue of where he'll attend school."

The University of Kentucky is recruiting Alston as an athlete according to his father and they will determine where he'll play once he steps on campus. Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and North Carolina all recruited Alston as a defensive back, with Alston being less than thrilled with the idea.

"He'll play wherever," Alston Sr. commented. "I know he'd prefer to play running back, but he's gonna do whatever the coach asks of him to do."

The 5-foot-8, 200 pound running back and Greensboro (NC) native will make an official visit to Kentucky in December.
