Luis Guzman has one goal in mind as he approaches his recruiting process. "I want to play at the highest level and best school," he stated. "I know I can play at a high level." Judging by his recent performances for the Playaz Club of New Jersey, one would have to agree with Luis, who scored 20 and handed out 10 assists in a game at IS8 in Queens, New York. Guzman, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard from Paramus Catholic High School in New Jersey, did an outstanding job of running the break, scoring when given an opportunity to shoot, and also defending his own man. "I try to improve all parts of my game when I get a chance," Guzman said. "I want to work on my defense, my quickness, my shooting." Guzman has a chance to be one of the best guards in the 2006 class. He will receive plenty of high division one attention and will have numerous chances to play in front of the top coaches in the country since Jimmy Salmon's program is among the best in the nation. "I have heard from Ohio State, Florida State, St. Joe's, DePaul, Arkansas, Seton Hall, Georgetown, and a little from Kentucky," Guzman said. "But Kentucky has been made a call to my coach and some mail." Luis said Georgetown, Seton Hall, and Florida State have offered. Guzman said he would be interested in Kentucky if they pursued him seriously. "It's a great program and they have a great coach," he said. "I like the way they play." For now, Florida State might be the school to beat. "I like them a lot," he said. "I just want to go to a top school and play against the best players." It's up to the Kentucky program to seriously pursue Guzman, who could end up having a big summer. Guzman plays with Wayne Ellington, Earl Clark, and Gerald Henderson, three top candidates for next year's McDonald's All American game. Guzman tries to fit in. "It's great to play with all these top players," Guzman said. "I just have to be patient and get them the ball." If Guzman succeeds in that goal, he is likely to have numerous offers on the table after the July recruiting period. Kentucky may have to re-think how serious they want to be with Guzman too. |
