Sources in Belfry (KY) have confirmed to Inside Kentucky, that David Jones, a 5'10 running back/defensive back prospect out of Belfry High School, has committed to UK.
The athlete was recently honored as a member of the, "Tremendous Twenty-Six," team and recently was ranked #10 on Inside Kentucky's Top 10 list, published over the holiday weekend.
The 5'10 athlete is most noted around the state of Kentucky for his speed and tackling ability. In a recent state track meet, Jones ran a blazing 10.72 in the 100 meter dash.
He has been reportedly timed in the 4.3 range.
The 172-pound, Jones, recently led Belfry's powerhouse football program to the Class 2A state championship, rushing for 1,522 yards and 24 touchdowns, while catching 10 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns, last season.
According to his coach, the senior-to-be also returned three kick-offs for touchdowns, while intercepting five passes for the Pirates.
He is most noted for his -200 yard & four touchdown- performance that earned him MVP honors in Belfry’s championship in December.
Once believed to be a strong Ohio State lean, Jones is projected as a defensive back when he hits campus next fall, but sources in Belfry believe the staff will give Jones every chance to play running back at the next level.
David Jones is Kentucky's second verbal commitment of 2005. Trigg County offensive linemen Kenny Ray Turner was UK's first verbal commitment of the 2005 season; committing to Rich Brooks' program, three months ago.
