UK Football Notebook: Aug. 6

The Wildcats had a poor workout and lost a player to injury on Day 3 of fall camp.

Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops said his team did not show the energy or focus he expects on its first day in pads, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

The UK boss also revealed that freshman safety Darius West, a four-star signee in the Cats' highly-regarded recruiting class, will not play this season due to a "lower-leg injury." He noted that West had been impressive during the summer and was expected to give the defense depth at safety.

West's senior season at Central Catholic in Lima, Ohio, had also been cut short by a broken leg. He played just two games in his final year at the prep level, then re-injured the leg in his rehabilitation, but was cleared to resume football activities this summer.
