Randle, Young drafted by L.A., Boston

Kentucky's Julius Randle and James Young saw their basketball dreams come to fruition Thursday, hearing their names selected in the first round of the NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Randle went to the Los Angeles Lakers with the No. 7 pick and Young went to the Boston Celtics at No. 17. They marked the 14th and 15th UK players to be drafted in the opening round during the last five years.

UK became the only program since the draft went to two rounds in 1989 to have multiple players selected in the first round for five consecutive years. John Calipari also became the only coach to have multiple players selected in seven consecutive drafts dating back to his time at Memphis.

Randle and Young mark the 109th and 110th Wildcats drafted in the history of the program. Randle was the 11th player from UK to go in the top 10 since 1989. He is the fourth Wildcat ever to be drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. Young became the fifth Wildcat ever drafted by the Boston Celtics.

In just five years with UK, Calipari has had two No. 1 picks, 15 first-round picks and 19 total players selected in the NBA Draft.
