Palmetto WR enjoys UK visit

Kentucky played host to a wide receiver prospect from one of the most talent-rich high school programs in South Carolina on Monday.

Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes standout Tavin Richardson stopped by the UK campus for his second unofficial visit to Lexington.

Richardson (6-4, 206) is a three-star prospect in the Class of 2015. He currently holds 19 scholarship offers, including one from the Cats.

"The visit went great," he said. "I visited the football faclities, Commonwealth Stadium, the academic center, the dorms, the lockerroom and weight room.

"After the tour, I was able to talk to the wide receivers coach, Coach (Tommy) Mainord, the offensive coordinator, Coach (Neal) Brown, and the head coach, Coach (Mark) Stoops. Us four sat down and talked about how I'll be used in the offense as wide receiver, not tight end. We talked about how I could come in and play early. We talked for a good 50 minutes."

Richardson said he liked how the staff presented the "Air Raid" offense and the role he would play in it should he choose to become a Wildcat.

"The offense at UK is basically the same at my high school, so it was very appealing to me," he said. "With this being my second visit to UK, I feel very comfortable with Coach Mainord, Coach Brown and Coach Stoops. Kentucky is very high on my list."

Richardson says his UK recruitment has gone so well that he plans to make another trip to Lexington for a game this season.

A decision probably won't come until after his senior season, but he'll be looking closely at many factors such as: offensive style, campus life, coaching style and relationships, and the ability to develop him for the next level.

So far, UK rates high on all of those criteria, Richardson said.

As a junior, Richardson finished with 53 catches for 836 yards and eight touchdowns. His offer sheet also features programs like Florida, Arkansas, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Miami and Virginia Tech.
