Kentucky could be on the verge of its first vebal commitment in the basketball Class of 2015. Five-star Chicago wing Charles Matthews announced on Monday via Twitter that he would make his college choice known on Wednesday morning.

Said Matthews via his @CMATT_4 Twitter account: "Making my announcement Wednesday at 8:30am St Rita High School... Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan St, and Marquette was the final 5."

His announcement has been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday.

One source told AllWildcats that Illinois may be in the best position to land Matthews, while another indicated that things were trending UK's way later Monday evening.

The Wildcats have long been considered a favorite to land Matthews, who played for the Meanstreets AAU program that produced UK signees Anthony Davis and Tyler Ulis. The UK speculation was elevated Monday night after it was reported that John Calipari made a trip to the Windy City earlier in the evening to see Matthews.

The 6-foot-5 wing is currently rated No. 15 in the junior class by Scout. Kentucky has also been pursuing 2015 wings Malik Newman (SG), Luke Kennard (SG) and Jaylen Brown (SF) early in the process.
