Wiggins sets date

The nation's top-ranked basketball prospect in the Class of 2013 is set to announce his college decision. Kentucky fans will not have to wait much longer to learn if Andrew Wiggins will join the Wildcats' No. 1 ranked recruiting class.

The wait is almost over.

One of the most heavily-followed basketball recruiting sagas in recent memory will come to a close this coming week as Huntington Prep small forward Andrew Wiggins has set a time for his college announcement.

The Canadian phenom will choose between Kentucky, Florida State, Kansas and North Carolina during a private signing ceremony at approximately 12:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Huntington Prep.

Huntington Prep coach Rob Fulford confirmed the plans on Sunday night via the Twitter social network, adding that only friends, family and teammates will be attending the ceremony. A designated media representative from the local paper, Grant Traylor of The Huntington Dispatch, will reportedly be on hand to relay the decision to the masses.

The 6-foot-8 Wiggins is widely regarded as the top amateur prospect in the world, regardless of class. If he chooses the Wildcats, it would give John Calipari the top-ranked player at each of the five positions, joining No. 1 point guard Andrew Harrison, No. 1 shooting guard Aaron Harrison, No. 1 power forward Julius Randle and No. 1 center Dakari Johnson.

UK's signing class, which also currently includes a five-star prospect at Wiggins' position in Michigan standout James Young, is already considered by many to be the best in the history of the college game.

Florida State is considered UK's biggest challenger. Wiggins' parents, Mitchell and Marita, met as star athletes in Tallahassee during their college days. Mitchell played in the NBA and Marita was a medalist for the Canadian Olympic team as a sprinter.
