Kentucky commitment Dakari Johnson had a big performance Saturday in the championship game of the National High School Invitational, an event that proclaims the nation's top prep team.

Dakari Johnson and his Montverde (Fla.) Academy squad solidified themselves as the No. 1 team in the nation and high school national champions on Saturday.

The Eagles defeated St. Benedict's Prep of New Jersey, 67-65, to win the National High School Invitational in Bethesda, Md. Johnson overcame severe foul trouble to finish with 19 points, eight rebounds, one blocked shot and two steals in the victory.

During a post-game interview with ESPN, Johnson seemed to have already turned his attention to next season’s goal.

“I’m going to win a national championship at Kentucky next year,” said the 7-foot center.

Montverde Academy came up short in last year’s NHSI championship game, losing to Findlay Prep of Nevada in the season finale. However, Johnson was not able to suit up with his team as he sat out the entire season after transferring from St. Patrick’s High School in New Jersey.

Having success on the big stage, like Saturday, is something that Dakari Johnson will take with him into next season at Kentucky.

Big Blue fans will be able to catch their future center at the Jordan Brand Classic on April 13 in Brooklyn, N.Y. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN 2.

Fellow Kentucky signees Aaron Harrison and Andrew Harrison, Julius Randle and Marcus Lee will join Dakari Johnson at the Barclays Center. Andrew Wiggins, who has been made the top priority to finish out UK’s stellar 2013 class, will be featured in the All-American event as well.
