Huge week leads to honors for UK's Reed

Kentucky sophomore pitcher/first baseman A.J. Reed has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week.

Kentucky sophomore pitcher/first baseman A.J. Reed has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week and the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week after batting .526, hitting three home runs, collecting 15 RBI and earning a win on the mound during the Wildcats’ five wins last week.

The Terre Haute, Ind., native earned his first SEC Player of the Week honor of his career, joining Vanderbilt pitcher Kevin Ziomek and Texas A&M freshman outfielder Jonathna Moroney as the league’s award winners this week.

Reed is hitting .409 with an SEC-leading four home runs and 22 RBI this season. He pushed his slugging percentage to a robust .750 last week. On the mound, the preseason All-America selection is 2-1 with a 4.70 ERA.

Kentucky (10-1) plays host to Cincinnati on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium and Xavier on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
