The Alabama women’s basketball team (12-11, 2-8 SEC) will play its second home game of the week when it hosts Arkansas (15-8, 3-7 SEC) on Sunday in Foster Auditorium. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. CT.
The Crimson Tide and Razorbacks will be meeting for the 31st time in the series that the Razorbacks lead, 16-14.
Alabama
’s last win over
Arkansas
came on Feb. 27, 2011, by a score of 92-79 in Fayetteville. The Tide’s last victory against the Razorbacks in Tuscaloosa was on Jan. 15, 2006, 75-73.
Alabama has lost its last four games, all coming against Southeastern Conference opponents. In each of those four contests, the Tide has been unable to reach 60 points. In its most recent game, Alabama dropped a 65-53 decision to 15th-ranked
South Carolina
on Thursday in Tuscaloosa, where the Tide was outscored, 42-22, in the paint and out-rebounded, 53-24. Sophomore Daisha Simmons led all scorers in the game with 18 points while juniors Shafontaye Myers and Jasmine Robinson added 11 apiece.
Simmons continues to lead Alabama in scoring for the season with an average of 12.5 points. She is followed by Myers (11.9 ppg) and Robinson (10.2 ppg). The Tide still leads the league in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 24.1 percent from long range, and is second in turnover margin, collecting 7.7 less than its opponents.
Arkansas enters Sunday’s game having lost its last two games, with the most recent coming in overtime, 80-74, against eighth-ranked
Kentucky
. The Razorbacks were led in scoring by senior Sarah Watkins, who had 25 points. Also notching double-digits was senior Quistelle Williams, with 18, and freshman Dominique Wilson, who had a season-high 17 points.
Arkansas has three players averaging double-figure point for the season, led by Watkins’ 13.5 point contribution, She is followed by Williams (10.8 ppg) and Keira Peak (10.3 ppg). The Razorbacks rank second in the SEC in field goal percentage defense, holding its opponents to 35.7 percent.
