UK's Mathies on midseason Wooden Award list

Kentucky senior A'dia Mathies was one of 20 players named to the John R. Wooden Award's midseason watch list on Tuesday.

Kentucky senior A'dia Mathies was one of 20 players named to the John R. Wooden Award mid-season watch list on Tuesday.

Mathies leads the Wildcats in scoring (15.4 ppg), 3-pointers made (43) and 3-point percentage (.422), while ranking third on the team in rebounds (4.3 rpg), assists (2.1 apg) and steals (1.6 spg). The 5-foot-9 guard has posted double-figure scoring in 17 of 19 games this season, including four outings with 20 or more points. Her strong play and leadership has helped Kentucky (18-1, 6-0 SEC) earn a spot in the top five of both national polls during a 17-game winning streak.

The Louisville native is one of only two SEC players on the prestigious watch list, along with Texas A&M junior center Kelsey Bone.

The 36th Annual Wooden Award Gala will take place Friday, April 12, and will honor men’s and women’s Wooden Award winners, All-Americans and the Legends of Coaching Award winner Bill Self of Kansas.
