Exum recaps Indiana visit, has new interest

Prior to heading back to Australia, Dante Exum, a four-star recruit, recapped his Indiana visit, discussed new interest and talked about the possibility of enrolling at a college early.

Dante Exum, a four-star recruit out of Australia, made his way to the United States to officially visit Indiana this past weekend.

The junior met with a number of people on campus, received a tour and went to Indiana's game against Minnesota.

"I really just got a feeling for what it would be like to play for Indiana," Exum told Scout.com. "It was a good visit."

"I just had meetings with the coaches, the strength and conditioning coach, the business professor, because that's probably what I want to study," he said. "I toured the campus and I got to catch the game, so that was real good."

Heading into the visit, Exum had high expectations for his visit. Prior to jumping on a flight home, Exum told Scout.com that the visit lived up to those expectations.

"Everything that they said on the phone lived up to what I was expecting," Exum said. "I was even surprised about the coaching staff and all the stuff about basketball and how much they cared about the players and how much it seemed like a family. That's something I really liked about it."

Indiana assistant coach Kenny Johnson is the point man on Exum's recruitment. According to Exum, the two have developed a good relationship.

"I spent most of the weekend with him," Exum said. "He took me out to eat. I really had a good time with him. He's a really good friend now."

Prior to his visit, Exum wasn't ready to classify Indiana as his favorite. Now he says the Hoosiers are sticking out.

"Being there over the weekend they really stood out because I got to be around the players and get a feel for their program and got to catch their game," Exum said. "You could say that. I'm still looking to go to the other programs and see what they have to offer as well."

To go with Indiana, LSU, Tulsa and SMU have recruited Exum hard. He said the academics at those schools stick out to him.

"They seemed to have just really good programs," he said. "The coaches that have been talking to me praise their programs really well. It's the same on the academic end. My parents are really high on academics and that's one thing I'm really looking at in a school. Most of those schools have been praising their academics as well."

Recently a handful of other schools have contacted Exum.

"I've gotten a few new ones," he said about his college interest. "Louisville is starting to come into the equation. Ohio State and I recently got into contact with Kentucky, but I don't know where that's going."

At this stage, Exum, a 2014 prospect, hasn't set up any other visits.

"There are schools that want me to visit but I haven't really organized when I can go as well," he said. "I'll probably cut my list and start trying to visit all those schools."

"I'm really looking to find the right school for me," he added. "I really want to get out and see the other schools and see how they compare to Indiana. Whenever that is and whenever I feel that Indiana or another school is the right school that's when I'll decide."

Exum told Scout.com that he plans to finish his high school career in Australia. The school year in Australia runs from February to November, so there is a possibility that he could enroll early at a college.

"There could be a chance," he said. "Nothing is being planned that far and that is really up to the school that recruits me."
