Florida announced on Sunday afternoon that sophomore quarterback Jacoby Brissett and sophomore running back Chris Johnson will both transfer from the program. Brissett served as the backup quarterback this season, even starting one game, while Johnson played a big role on Florida’s kickoff coverage unit.

“Both Jacoby and Chris expressed an interest in transferring and getting a fresh start,” Will Muschamp said. “We are very thankful for their contributions to the University of Florida and wish them the best of luck.”

Jacoby Brissett played in 13 games during his Florida career. He started two games in 2011—at LSU and at Auburn. His one start in 2012 came against Jacksonville State when Jeff Driskel had an ankle injury.

Brissett will end his Florida career going 41-of-74 through the air for 455 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Gators will now have a battle for the backup position this spring between Skyler Mornhinweg and Tyler Murphy. Max Staver, a commitment for the 2013 class, will join the battle when he gets to campus in the summer.

Johnson split time between safety and running back at Florida and played in all 26 games during his two years on campus. He ends his Florida career with 19 tackles on kickoff and punt coverage. The highlight play of his career was a fumble recovery on a kickoff against South Carolina that he returned to the one-yard line.

Johnson carried the ball five times for 35 yards during the 2012 season.
