Denzel Devall was back on the practice fields Thursday, but wore a black non-contact jersey and a knee brace. Alabama head coach Nick Saban said this week that the freshman linebacker isn't ruled out for the national championship game, but probably won't practice until after Christmas.

It was a beautiful afternoon in Tuscaloosa today—sunny and in the low 50s—but Alabama practiced inside the Hank Crisp Facility for the second day in a row. Head coach Nick Saban explained this week that since the temperatures in Miami for the national championship will be in the 60s and 70s, he wants to get his players used to those conditions.

The media was granted about 10 minutes to watch practice, so here are some observations:

--Freshman linebacker Denzel Devall, who was not at practice on Thursday, was back on the field Friday, wearing a black non-contact jersey and a brace on his sprained knee. He did not participate in drills, but rather watched his teammates, standing off to the side.

“He has not been ruled out for the game by any stretch of the imagination,” Saban said. “He’s day-to-day.”

Saban said Devall probably won’t practice until after Christmas.

--Safety Jarrick Williams, who had surgery to repair a torn ACL in August, continues to practice in a black jersey and a knee brace. He’s participating in all drills. This week Saban did not rule him out for the national title game.

--Nose guard Jesse Williams (sprained knee) was practicing. Thursday, when asked how he was feeling, he said, “It’s good. It’s still connected to my body, so that’s’ good.”

--Wide receiver Kenny Bell (leg) wore a black jersey on the sideline.

--Jeremy Pruitt, who was announced as the new Florida State defensive coordinator Thursday, is still coaching up the defensive backs. He will stick with the Crimson Tide through the national championship game on Jan. 7.

“I’m always happy when our coaches get opportunities,” Saban said of Pruitt. “I think when a guy has an opportunity to do that at a good school and a good program where he has a chance to be successful, I think it only speaks well of our program that people are interested in hiring people when we have success.

“Jeremy has done a really good job here. He’s grown up in the program here. We’re happy for him and wish him well. He’s a guy that played at Alabama, he loves Alabama. It’s tough for him to leave Alabama, but it’s a professional decision that I think he had to make.”
