Mark Stoops to Kentucky

Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops has been named the next head coach at the University of Kentucky.

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters on Monday that his defensive coordinator had not interviewed for the job despite all the rumors flying around.

From Rich Brooks, to Joker Phillips, and now to Mark Stoops. Kentucky will introduce Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops as its next head football coach in Lexington per Kentucky Sports Radio.

Terms of the deal are not known at this time

Stoops, 45, fits exactly what the Wildcats were looking for in its next head coach: high-energy personality, and a great recruiter with a defensive mindset. He also has experience from some top programs. Certainly it doesn't hurt to have the pedigree of the Stoops last name either; brothers Bob and Mike have both been head coaches at their respected schools.

It is unclear if Stoops will remain with Florida State through its bowl game or ACC Championship game this weekend.

Stoops did a remarkable job turning an FSU defense ranked 108th in to a respectable defense his first year. In the two years since then his defense has ranked in the top-10. Before becoming the defensive coordinator at Florida State, Stoops had coaching stops at South Florida, Houston, Miami, and Arizona.

Assuming the report is true, Kentucky has made a great hire and Stoops will certainly have success if given adequate resources. It is yet to be determined who Stoops will take with him from the current FSU staff or anybody else he will try to bring on board with him. Will update more upon confirmation from the school.
