No More Scoreboard Watching

ATHENS - For the first time in the BCS era, Georgia controls its own destiny this late in the season.

Georgia, which took care of Georgia Southern 45-14 on Saturday afternoon, watched Saturday night as two of the top teams in the country lost.

Kansas State's 52-24 blowout loss at Baylor coupled with Oregon's 17-14 overtime loss to Stanford put Georgia in position for a birth in the BCS National Title Game in Miami.

Those two losses with two more Georgia wins will almost certainly put the Bulldogs in Miami.

But the Bulldogs still have work to do - some would call it heavy lifting.

Georgia Tech and its option attack will meet the Bulldogs in Athens two days after Thanksgiving. The Jackets, who have been blown out by BYU and Middle Tennessee State, have gotten their act together of late and are on a three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, mighty Alabama seems to be the all-but-certain opponent for the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship on December 1st. Alabama needs to beat lowly Auburn - if not LSU (with a win over equally lowly Arkansas) would arrive in Atlanta.

Still, moments before midnight Georgia knew that for the first time in the history of the BCS era it controls its own destiny in the national championship picture. Recommended Stories
