A sure sign that the Apocalypse is near: Tennessee has beaten Vanderbilt 28 times in the past 29 meetings but all four InsideTennessee staffers are picking the Commodores to win Saturday night's game in Nashville.
Can the Vols (4-6 overall, 0-6 SEC) continue their mastery of the Commodores (6-4, 4-3) or is the Big Orange doomed to another lost weekend?
InsideTennessee's Chris Price went 5-2 on last week's SEC Picks, correctly predicting Missouri's defeat of Tennessee. Danny Parker, Josh Woodward and Randy Moore went 4-3 each. Parker continues to lead for the season with a 78-13 record. Below are the staff picks for this week, with year-to-date won/loss records in parenthesis:
DANNY PARKER (78-13)
Western Carolina at Alabama: Look for the Crimson Tide to open up a can of frustration. Alabama, 54-0.
Arkansas at Mississippi State: Not really sure which team will show up on either sideline. State, 38-27.
Alabama A&M at Auburn: Let's go toss some toilet paper in some trees. Heck yeah! Auburn, 23-10.
Jacksonville State at Florida: Weak week continues. Florida, 38-6.
Georgia Southern at Georgia: This one won't affect the Bulldogs' cupcake run through the SEC slate. Georgia, 41-13.
Samford at Kentucky: What time is tip-off? Kentucky, 23-21.
Ole Miss at LSU: Don't stick your hands in the cage with an angry Tiger lurking. LSU, 30-9.
Syracuse at Missouri: Can former Vol assistant Doug Marrone have better success with the Orangemen against the Tigers? Doubt it. Missouri, 29-20.
Wofford at South Carolina: Hoping Ace Sanders gets a punt return with room to roam. Kid is fun to watch. South Carolina, 31-7.
Sam Houston State at Texas A&M: It's past time for the Aggies to build a Heisman campaign around their quarterback. Texas A&M, 54-3.
Tennessee at Vanderbilt: No Curt Maggitt. Distractions aplenty. Road contest. Motivated foe. Too much to overcome. Vanderbilt, 44-34.
JOSH WOODWARD (74-17)
Western Carolina at Alabama: Not much on the SEC slate this week so I will make these picks the fastest of the year. 48-7 Bama
Arkansas at Mississippi State: 38-20 State
Alabama A&M at Auburn: 20-10 Auburn
Jacksonville State at Florida: 52-10 Gators
Georgia Southern at Georgia: 48-9 Georgia
Samford at Kentucky: 20-17 Kentucky
Ole Miss at LSU: 35-20 LSU
Syracuse at Missouri: 35-31 Tigers
Wofford at South Carolina: 48-14 Gamecocks
Sam Houston State at Texas A&M: 56-7 Aggies
Tennessee at Vanderbilt: Probably the first time I have ever picked Tennessee to get beat by Vanderbilt. 38-31 Dores
RANDY MOORE (74-17)
Western Carolina at Alabama: Unless Johnny Football shows up to play for Western Carolina, this one's a Tide romp. Bama, 49-0
Arkansas at Mississippi State: The Bulldogs have lost three in a row and may be ripe for another setback. On a neutral field I'd pick the Hogs but this one's in Starkville. MSU, 31-27
Alabama A&M at Auburn: Wonder what Gene Chizik will be doing in December? Probably the same thing Joker Phillips and Derek Dooley will be ... banking his buyout. Auburn, 38-14
Jacksonville State at Florida: There should be a law against this. Gators, 41-7
Georgia Southern at Georgia: There should be a law against this, too. Dawgs, 38-0
Samford at Kentucky: Joker Phillips gets a going-away present, one final victory. Big Blue, 24-14
Ole Miss at LSU: Despite two losses, Les Miles' Tigers are an enormously talented team. LSU, 31-20
Syracuse at Missouri: Sure, the Tigers beat Tennessee last weekend, but they're still a bad football team. Syracuse, 27-20
Wofford at South Carolina: The Gamecocks will be looking ahead to Clemson, so this one could be close for a half. Carolina, 31-7
Sam Houston State at Texas A&M: The Aggies will be flat after shocking No. 1 Alabama but they won't be flat enough to lose. A&M, 35-14
Tennessee at Vanderbilt: The Vols are officially a train wreck. Commodores, 34-27
CHRIS PRICE (73-18)
Western Carolina at Alabama: Honestly I just hope no one is killed. A&M poked their bear and he might be a little upset going into this one. Tide 38-3.
Arkansas at Mississippi State: This is probably the best game on the slate this week. Arkansas is capable, but I don't see it on the road. State 24-17.
Alabama A&M at Auburn: Auburn is pretty bad. I mean really bad, but I think they can handle this one. Tigers 24-13.
Jacksonville State at Florida: Florida continues to improve. I bet they are regretting that loss to the Dawgs in a big way. Gators win 38-10.
Georgia Southern at Georgia: The SEC East champs are ready for a warmup game. I wonder if Aaron Murray can still see stains from the eggs on his windows? Dawgs 38-10.
Samford at Kentucky: I wonder who is worse, Auburn or Kentucky? That's a game I want to see. Wildcats 28-13.
Ole Miss at LSU: This could actually be a decent game. LSU has the defense, but Ole Miss has the offense. Can't pick against the Tigers, but it should be close. LSU 34-30.
Syracuse at Missouri: Missouri is coming off a big win and so is Syracuse. I am going with the home team. If it was at Syracuse I would pick the Orangemen, but no dice. Tigers 34-23.
Wofford at South Carolina: Take your paycheck and be on your way. Gamecocks 41-13.
Sam Houston State at Texas A&M: Texas A&M, what a story. I never saw anyone beating Alabama. Kudos. Aggies sit Johnny early and get the win 38-6.
Tennessee at Vanderbilt: Once again, Tennessee has yet to show me they can win this kind of game. And I don't care what Franklin says, that locker room video is on repeat everywhere those kids walk this week. Plus, Tennessee just doesn't have the love for Dooley like the '08 team had for Fulmer. I am taking the Commodores 31-30
