The Kentucky basketball program will conduct a telethon for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts on Wednesday night from 7-9 p.m. ET. Read more about the details here.
John Calipari
is once again mobilizing the Big Blue Nation in an effort to help those affected by natural disaster.
Calling upon the generous spirit of the UK fan base much like he did after the catastrophic 2010 earthquake in Haiti, Calipari will spearhead a telethon on Wednesday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET. The telethon will feature members of the men's basketball team taking phone calls live on Lexington's WKYT during the first hour and on CWKYT in a recently-added second hour.
Those wanting to make a donation in the Lexington area can call (859) 299-5455; outside the Lexington area can call toll free (855) 257-2700. During non-telethon hours, people can call the Red Cross at (859) 253-1331 or (800) RED-CROSS.
Additionally, monetary donations can also be taken to any Central Bank location in Lexington.
The special event will also stream live at WKYT.com, where donations can also be made for 24 hours beginning at 7 p.m. Several special auction items, including an autographed block of the New Orleans Superdome playing floor that UK won the 2012 national championship on, will be available.
One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross to benefit the victims of the catastrophic storm that ravaged the northeast last week.
For more information from the Red Cross, contact Winn Stephens at winn.stephens@redcross.org.
