Big Defensive End Liking Missouri Interest

After the move to the SEC conference, the Missouri Tigers have increased their recruiting efforts in the South. ShowMeMizzou.com introduces you to a rising defensive end in the picture with the Tigers.

The increasing of their recruiting base in the South by the Missouri Tigers has been very noticeable since they have joined the SEC.

In their search for quality defensive linemen to help close out the 2013 class, the Tigers have ventured in to the state of South Carolina recently for an DE target whose stock is on the rise.

ShowMeMizzou.com spoke recently with Irmo (SC) Dutch Fork's massive DE Jamar Winston 6'8" 245lbs 4.8 forty, 31.6" vertical jump, 4.6 shuttle time, who informs us of his recent interest and possible offer.

"Coach Grinch came to my school recently and spoke with Coach Knotts about me and their interest in me. Coach Grinch said physically and football wise they were ready to offer me, but they just needed to make sure my first semester grades were in order,"said Winston, who followed up by telling me,"My grades are good, it's not a problem."

Winston, who has 61 tackles and 6 sacks so far on the season to go along with 18 tackles for loss, 15 QB hurries, 7 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries, shared his thoughts on Missouri.

"I'm very interested in Missouri. They're up there for me. Being in the SEC is big, plus I know they do a good job of putting defensive linemen in the NFL along with other players. I have heard good things about the school and the football program. So, I hope to take an official visit there and see it in person," said Winston.

Jamar has been committed to UNC-Charlotte since this summer, and while he says he is still committed to them, he owes it to himself to look around at what the Tigers and a few other schools also newly recruiting him have to offer.

"I am still pretty much committed to UNC-Charlotte, but I need to explore this options that Missouri along with South Carolina, Clemson and Kentucky are now talking to me about now," he said.

Winston says that Clemson and South Carolina are showing similar interest as Mizzou.

Also a talented basketball player,Winston actually received an offer to play hoops at Middle Tennessee State, after his first year of playing basketball as a junior and averaging 14 points per game and 10 rebounds. Jamar grew six inches between his freshman and junior years and had only played football until last year.

With a self-reported 325lb bench press, 450lb squat and 300lb power clean, Winston spoke about his talents on the football field.

"Pass rushing,"said Winston."I love it! I want to get in the backfield and get the QB and disrupt every play. I am pretty quick off the ball, use my hands well, and I have long arms, so if I can't get to him, I can get my hands up and deflect passes."

Jamar Winston said that he plans to major in business, and that he hopes to have a decision made by signing day if not before.
