Anthony Davis and Darius Miller made their NBA debuts for the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night. Davis, the top overall draft pick, produced big numbers in his first pro game.

Anthony Davis’ NBA debut was a big one.

The rookie center from Kentucky and No. 1 overall draft pick scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked one shot, but the New Orleans Hornets were edged 99-95 by a veteran-laden San Antonio Spurs squad.

Davis made two free throws to give New Orleans a 95-94 lead with 1:08 to play, but the Spurs scored the game’s final five points to claim the victory.

Davis was 6-of-12 from the field and 9-for-9 at the free throw line in 29 minutes of action. He went head-to-head with future NBA Hall of Famer Tim Duncan in his first pro game.

Fellow UK draft pick Darius Miller had three points, one rebound, two assists and two steals in 14 minutes of action off the Hornets’ bench.
