Kentucky has been tabbed to win the 2013 Southeastern Conference men’s basketball championship in voting done a select panel of regional and national media members.
Coming off a 38-2 season and their eighth national championship, the Wildcats received 17 of 24 first-place votes. Florida (5), Missouri (1) and Tennessee (1) also picked up votes to win the title.
Kentucky placed two players on the preseason All-SEC squad, both freshmen. Center Nerlens Noel was a first-team selection, while forward Alex Poythress was named to the second team.
Missouri junior guard Phil Pressey was named the preseason SEC Player of the Year with six votes. Florida senior guard Kenny Boyton was a close second with five votes. Tennessee sophomore forward Jarnell Stokes, Arkansas guard B.J. Young and Noel rounded out the first team.
Points were compiled on a 14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. Each media member also voted for a five-player All-SEC Team.
