Towns lands UK offer
Said Towns Monday night via the social network Twitter: "Offered officially by Coach Cal and the Kentucky staff tonight. #blessed #BBN #UK #Hardworkpaysoff #DR."
The 6-foot-10, 215-pound Towns is rated the No. 1 player in his class by Scout. He is entering his sophomore year at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, N.J.
This summer, Towns was part of the DR National Squad that practiced at UK under Calipari. The young high school standout worked on a daily basis against NBA star Al Horford and other professional players as the Dominicans made a run at a spot in the Olympics.
"There's a lot to like about Towns," said Scout national basketball analyst Evan Daniels. "At his size, he has such great touch and feel from a scoring standpoint. He has great hands, can step out and shoot to 22 feet, and is learning how to impact the game on the glass.
"The Dominican Republic experience helped him a great deal from a toughness and preparation standpoint. He was around professional players and forced to work on his post game and physical play. It was a big deal for the youngster and his game is better because of it."
Towns also holds early scholarship offers from programs like UConn, Syracuse, Baylor, Michigan State, N.C. State and Villanova.
