For every spectacular friendship we are fortunate to possess, the special connection forged between the two has the amazing power to open many doors in the pathway of life. People come and go like the wind but those who stay around and support you through thick and thin are hard to find. The great aspect of friendship is that you can be from two completely different worlds and still manage to find an affinity and allegiance to one another. Surprisingly, up and coming Boston Rapper Moufy and Kentucky’s very own 6’10" Center and basketball sensation, Nerlens Noel were very lucky to build such a lasting brotherhood.
Moufy explained the common bond that brought these two together in friendship and on a unique life path toward success, “Nerlens and I both went to Tilton Academy, at the time I was a senior and I believe he was a sophomore,” Moufy said. “We have similar backgrounds, finding out that we were both from Massachusetts (I’m from Boston and Nerlens from Everton) and how we both ended up in New Hampshire is definitely a commonality that resonated and strengthened our connection.”
During the early stages of their friendship, Moufy discovered he had a passion for music, commencing his exciting journey with the support of his new friend Nerlens. “I started making music when I was a senior and the mixtape with the most notoriety, Boston Lights, started to pick up,” Moufy stated, “Nerlens was there from the beginning, when the mixtape started to manifest itself, he was there rooting for me and my success.”
Noel’s tremendous support of his friend was not the only notable characteristics that fortified their kinship, even with his elite status; his buddy Moufy was able to see that Noel was quite a grounded young man. “The special thing about Nerlens is that given all of that talent, he is extremely humble, he doesn’t brag and doesn’t like to talk about his success in basketball.”
As their friendship grew over time, so too did Noel’s popularity as bona fide national high school talent on the hardwood. Unassuming as he was, Noel was no braggart. He rarely spoke of his growing fame and accomplishments. While Moufy was still able to discover more and more about the skyrocketing success of his friend, never once did he hear it straight from Noel’s mouth.
“I remember he made the LeBron James Camp and it was huge, only a few get selected, I read it in a blog somewhere,” Moufy affirmed. “I looked at him and said ‘hey, why didn’t you tell me you made the camp two weeks ago’ and Nerlens just shrugged his shoulders, that’s classic him, he isn’t going to talk about it; he is humble and if you want to learn something about him you have to ask.”
Even if on most occasions you have to wrestle information out of the restrained Noel, he speaks fondly of the University of Kentucky with his fellow friend, “He is excited about Kentucky and he talked about bulking up and getting big and looking forward to the challenge and learning more from the coaching staff,” Moufy excitedly explained. “He praises the team over there at Kentucky and the program, just all of the support so far, I mean look he had over 50,000 Twitter fans and most of them are Kentucky family, they are already making him a part of the family!”
With the warm embrace generously given to Noel by the most loyal Big Blue Kentucky fan base, Moufy believes that Kentucky has also benefited by receiving one great person who is about to surprise many, “He is a phenom on defense, people are going to realize it quickly, he has so much humility and class, he was always mature about his #1 status,” Moufy said. “He is ready for the spotlight, you could see it coming even when he was in high school.”
And indeed Nerlens Noel is unquestionably ready for the spotlight and challenges that await him at the University of Kentucky in his upcoming season. The expectations are extremely high; this is just the nature of the Big Blue Nation. Some say Noel is a defensive phenom on the court, others assert his modest heart and humility is his strength, but Kentucky can positively say that they have one wonderful Wildcat in their #1 ranked basketball recruit Nerlens Noel!
