Kentucky Sports Reports recognizes the top player on special teams

Our choice for top special teams player really got a work out this season, due to the anemic offense UK fielded.

Our special teams player of the year is Ryan Tydlacka, who is likely still icing down his leg.

This season Tydlacka punted the ball an amazing 79 times. Tydlacka averaged 43.6 yards a punt, making him one of the top punters in the SEC.

Tydlacka's longest punt on the season was boomed an amazing 64 yards. Twenty times the Kentucky punter booted the ball 50 yards or greater.

Tydlacka planted the ball inside the 20 yard line on 19 occasions. Thirteen of Tydlacka's punts ended with a fair catch by the returner.

An amazing stat for Tydlacka, and a tribute to both he and the protection he was given, is that the 79 punt attempts did not yield a single blocked punt. Tydlacka was adept at getting a quick kick off when it appeared that opponents would have an opportunity to block one of his punts.
