KSR's top defensive player

KSR's top defensive player

Kentucky Sports Reports recognizes the top player on the defensive side of the ball

In giving out the KSR defensive award there were two very worthy candidates to consider. Danny Trevathan (pictured) and Winston Guy led the Kentucky defensive unit this season. The two finished the regular season first and second in the league in tackles, respectively.

Our choice for the top Cat on the defensive side of the ball? Danny Trevathan. And Winston Guy. It was impossible to choose one over the other, so KSR has co-defensive players of the year.

Trevathan was expected to be Kentucky's leader on defense, and he didn't disappoint. Trevathan was credited with 143 tackles, 4 interceptions and forced five fumbles.

Guy racked up 120 tackles, including 14 tackles for loss while playing a hybrid Safety-linebacker position for new co-defensive coordinator Rick Minter.

Both players flourished in Minter's defensive scheme. Even though Kentucky loses its top two defenders a number of returnees for 2012 showed a lot of promise playing for Minter.
