Kentucky's in home with Ellis set

In many reports on Kentucky forward recruit Perry Ellis it has been mentioned that the Kentucky visit had yet to be scheduled. That is no longer the case as an in home visit date has been set with Ellis.

Kentucky Sports Report's senior writer Larry Vaught has been covering the recruitment of Wichita (KS) Heights star Perry Ellis for at least a year.

On Saturday Vaught reported that the Ellis in home visit will be held on September 16th. This places the Ellis visit in close proximity to Calipari's return to Kentucky following his stint coaching the Dominican Republic's team as they have participated in the Olympics qualifying tournament.

Ellis has long been a priority recruit for Calipari. A visit date set soon after Calipari's return emphasizes the recruit's priority status.

Kentucky will be the final in home visit for Ellis. Kansas had first crack on the opening day of the contact period. Kansas State will get its crack at Ellis on September 12th, followed by Wichita State on September 13th.

Despite efforts by Kansas to get Ellis to commit to a campus visit no visit date was set.

Perry's mother, Fonda Ellis, told Scout.com's Phog.net, "They would like us to attend the Legends weekend (Sept. 24) and the Late Night weekend (Oct. 14). But nothing was decided yet."

Scout's profile for Ellis indicates that Ellis is an aggressive scorer, with a mid-range game, who runs the floor well. At the same time Scout lists ballhandling and strength as areas of improvement for Ellis. Under the tutelage of Calipari and his staff Ellis would most certainly have the opportunity for his areas of improvement to improve dramatically.

With sophomore Terrence Jones most assuredly set to enter the 2012 NBA draft Ellis would be an ideal type of player to step into the vacated spot and receive the playing time necessary to prepare him for the next level.

The NBA's current lockout situation and its debate over the one and done rule being changed to a two and through version will have no impact on Jones declaring for the draft next spring.
