“Our intensity was better and our focus was a lot better,” Joker Phillips said after practice Wednesday."
It was a rainy, gloomy day, forcing the
Kentucky
Wildcats into the confines of the Nutter Fieldhouse.
The location did not detract from the focus of the Wildcats.
“Our intensity was better and our focus was a lot better,”
Joker Phillips
said after practice Wednesday. “It should be. We have been working on
Central Michigan
for three days so we should have a better understanding about what we are seeing. Our skills (positions) were a lot better throwing and catching today and we just hope it shows up on the game field on Saturday.”
After a poor performance to open the season Phillips was very happy with the performance of Kentucky’s wide receivers and
Morgan Newton
in today's practice session.
“It was definitely a lot better today and a lot of that has to do with understanding what we are seeing on defense after studying Central Michigan for three days,” Phillips said about the play of UK’s offense. “But we shouldn’t have any problems throwing and catching the ball, regardless of who we are playing, but we were a lot better today.
“Morgan had a really good day today. He threw the ball to the right people and the guys caught the ball. That goes a long way with his confidence and his confidence in other guys when they make plays. We protected better also today. When you protect better I think that helps his confidence and when he does throw and we make catches that helps his confidence too.”
