Cats defeat Gamecocks, 31-28
The comeback was necessitated following an abysmal first half in which Kentucky was manhandled by South Caroline and limped to the locker room down 28-10. The hole could have been deeper had South Carolina not coughed the ball up three times in the first half.
The Kentucky second half featured a valiant comeback for the third consecutive game. Unlike the attempts at Mississippi and Auburn this comeback did not fall short.
The Wildcats came away with more than a 31-28 victory. This was the program's first ever victory over a Steve Spurrier coached team. Joker Phillips may have gotten a signature victory as a head coach, in defeating a long time Kentucky nemesis.
