Cats defeat Gamecocks, 31-28

Kentucky came into the South Carolina game winless all time against the "Old Ball Coach," Steve Spurrier. At the end of the first half it appeared that Spurrier would maintain that perfect record against Kentucky, but it was not meant to be.

With four seconds remaining in the game Kentucky CB Anthony Mosley picked off South Carolina QB Stephen Garcia's attempt at a game winning TD in the end zone to seal an improbable Wildcat comeback.

The comeback was necessitated following an abysmal first half in which Kentucky was manhandled by South Caroline and limped to the locker room down 28-10. The hole could have been deeper had South Carolina not coughed the ball up three times in the first half.

The Kentucky second half featured a valiant comeback for the third consecutive game. Unlike the attempts at Mississippi and Auburn this comeback did not fall short.

The Wildcats came away with more than a 31-28 victory. This was the program's first ever victory over a Steve Spurrier coached team. Joker Phillips may have gotten a signature victory as a head coach, in defeating a long time Kentucky nemesis. Recommended Stories
